Birth Registration Appointment

The birth of your baby must be registered within 42 days (6 weeks) by the correct registration district.

Babies born at Northampton General Hospital should be registered with us, however if the birth took place at home, please check the location is within the West Northamptonshire Registration District, as some addresses with NN postcode's will not be included within this district.

Please note - babies born at Kettering General Hospital must be registered in North Northamptonshire

If you don't reside in West Northamptonshire, and your baby was also born outside of this Registration District, but you wish to register your baby at one of our offices please email registrationservice.ncc@westnorthants.gov.uk

The Registration Service provides pre-booked appointments only, we do not offer walk-in appointments at any of our offices.

When booking your appointment you will have the opportunity to purchase birth certificates, please have your payment card with you before proceeding. Please note - we're unable to take cash or card payments for certificates in our offices at this time.

Once your appointment has been made you will be given a reference number; please keep this safe as it will be required if you wish to amend or cancel your appointment.

Please ensure you arrive in good time for your appointment, ideally 10 minutes prior to the appointment start time to confirm your arrival

If you arrive more than 10 minutes late the registrar will not be able to see you and you'll need to book another appointment with the service, additional charges may also be applied (see below).

Use of translators - all informants must be able to understand and speak English so they can answer the statutory questions. If you're married or in a Civil Partnership you can translate for each other, if you both choose to attend the appointment. If you're not married or in a Civil Partnership you cannot translate for each other - so you must bring somebody else to the appointment who can translate for you.

To ensure compliance with Data Protection and Health & Safety legislation we cannot allow food and/or drink into the Registrar's office. Mobile phones are also not permitted to be used during the appointment.

The Registration Service is unable to refund any pre-paid fees if you: -

  • fail to attend your appointment and do not contact us in advance
  • arrive more than 10 minutes late
  • cannot provide all of the information and/or documents required

Once your appointment has been made you will receive a reference number. Please retain this as it will be required if you need to contact us to amend or cancel your appointment.
